Job Functions, Duties, Responsibilities and Position Qualifications:
The Medical Laboratory Technician utilizes practical and theoretical knowledge to perform laboratory procedures as outlined in the procedure manuals, ensuring the completion of assigned workload.
Principle Accountabilities / Responsibilities
- Performs stat and routine clinical laboratory testing consistent with written procedures under the direction of a Laboratory Section Manager and/or the oversight of a Medical Technologist.
- Preparation, set-up, and testing of specimens within the laboratory, in order to ensure timely and accurate results to clients.
- Maintains personal skill competencies, assures section in-service, and education needs are met to comply with licensing, accrediting standards, and regulations.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent preferred and completion of an AMA-approved Medical Laboratory Training Program.
Laboratory Assistant certification and/or training preferred.
Licensure, Registration, Certification
Certification or eligible by ASCP or equivalent.
Work requires some physical effort. Frequent walking, sitting, standing, typing, grasping, and twisting with both hands. Lifting or performing other work requiring light physical exertion (up to 30 pounds) is required.
Work involves frequent exposure to unpleasant working conditions or undesirable elements, may involve exposure to a variety or elements which are potentially hazardous or harmful which require exercise of well-defined precautions for protection from injury or illness.
